Data field not working as described in training data fields 101video

I think there might be a bug with data fields. I made a simple form with a name and email and that was all.
I also had a data field of health topics that was a required data field in another form.

My simple form wouldn't work even though there was no question leading to the health interests data field. I was told by support that this was because I had made a health topics data field required, even though it had nothing to do with my form that wasn't working.

This doesn't make any sense to me as I want the health interests to be required in the otherform that has that data field.
